Question: My youngest daughter age 6. Woke up sat morning with severely swollen lips. We brought her to vhi Swiftcare who diagnoised a chest infection but because she recently lost her 2 front teeth infection spread to her gums &nlips. Prescribed clonamox which has done nothing. Went to our own doc this morning who prescribed erythroped. Lips are extremely swore swollen with like pockets of dried blood. Do you think this second antibiotic will work or should we be doing/bringing her to a children's hospital if no change in morning. Many thanks

Brief Answer:
consider allergic reaction

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome.
I am not sure why is chest infection diagnosed if her only symptoms were swollen lips. Chest infection goes with chest pain, cough and fever in some cases. If she doesnt complain of these then it can be ruled out or if there is suspicious of chest infection she should do lung xrays. Swollen lips may be sign of allergic reaction, insect bite for example or it can be infection due to tooth or mouth infection. In every case, it is good that she is covered with antibiotics but i think she should get some antihistaminic as well such as synopen so ask your doctor about it. If you notice breathing difficutlties you should see doctor as soon as possible. Wish you good health Regards
