Suggest Remedy For Palpitations While On Penicillin VK

Question: I had a wisdom tooth extracted on Sep 9, 2015. I premed with 4 Amoxicillin prior to surgery. The Dentist prescribed Penicillin VK 500mg for a seven day period at 4 per day. Since I had taken the premed, I took 2 in PM the day of surgery. Since then I have been taking 4 per day. Yesterday, I noticed an unusual heartbeat. i.e. early beats and rapid rate approximately 100bpm for a short duration. Today (AM) I have experienced the same event. My normal HR is 56 to 61 while at rest. Today it will not go below 76 to 80. Could I be having a reaction to the penicillin? If so, what do you suggest I do? Emergency room or Same Day Care visit?

As per your complain irregular heartbeat after tooth extraction can occur due to allergic reaction of Medication, although increased heart rate after taking Penicillin VK is not a common complication and it commonly occurs if Penicillin VK is administrated intravenous..

But it can also occur after Oral intake and it needs immediate medical assistance..

Consult an Emergency Room to get evaluated and they can properly record your pulse, heart rate, blood pressure and if required ECG can also be done..

Although if you do not have any other symptoms like sweating, hot flashes, chest pain , palpitations, loss of consciousness, loss of appetite etc then it may be due to anxiety also and can be nothing serious..

But should not be taken lightly and you should get a check up done..
