Suggest Remedy For Lump In Jaw Line

default
Posted on Mon, 4 Jan 2016
Question: Hi I have a small movable lump under my jaw line on the right side. It doesn't hurt or irritate me unless I message with it. And even then it doesn't really bother me. It just came last night. I'm kind of worried because I'm thinking the worst like cancer or HIV. But I tested negative for HIV and I don't have any other symptoms. I feel like I have had this before and it just went away on it's own. Please help me.I had unprotected sex in January i was not ejaculated in and I got tested in July ( was that too late to get tested, would it cause a false negative if I didn't do it in a 30 day period?), came back negative. The results took about a week to come. When I was waiting I was really worried and stressed and thinking the worst and I experienced mild weakness sometimes and shoulder ,elbow, wrist, knee and ankle pain. But now this movable lump I found under my right jaw line is like the size of a small grape. I can only feel it when I put my chin on my chest, when I hold my head up I can't feel it. It didn't really irritate me until I started constantly messing with it. I don't have any other symptoms. I'm just really worried, anything I find or see wrong I automatically think the worst and worry so much I started to cry. I was thinking it was a tumor. Please help

Brief Answer:
swollen Submandibular lymph node, no worries. Self resolves.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. Small tiny bump appearing in night in submandibular area is neither cancer nor HIV. These are submandibular lymph nodes which are very benign and swell and inflame even to a mild inflammation as response like a sore throat,a flu or any other dental, oral , ear nose or throat problem. Eating even some thing sour or cold or drinking too much soda can trigger the swelling as sequelae of tonsillar inflammation.

All i wanna say is this is a swollen lymph node and nothing to worry about. If you dont have any other symptom just ignore it, wait for it to self resolve. it will self resolve for sure. Also regarding the unprotected coitus in january, that is 12 months now and has already been proved negative for STDs so no worries for that too.

I can see an 18 year overly worried guy who needs relaxation and some stress relief because none of your symptoms are worrisome and should not be taken seriously. if it bothers you you can have it assessed byvisiting a doctor nearby, they will sooth your worries further.

I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.

Ok and I have been drinking a lot of soda and some ice cream here and there. And I had a tooth ache at the top row. But now the bridge of my mouth in the back feels mildly sore( I guess that's how I can explain it). I was also horse about 2 1/2 weeks ago. And my jaw line is kind of tender. Is that because I keep rubbing under there and touching it. Also I only took one test and it was in July and I had unprotected oral sex in I would say the beginning of May or end of April. But I learned that transmission through oral is 0.01% chance. So just regarding the January encounter I took the HIV test like 7 to 8 months after (in July). So since it wasn't in the 30 day period could it alter the accuracy of the test?

Brief Answer:
No worries

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getitng back to me

The answer lie sin follow up. Soda, ice cream, tooth ache . These things triggered this inflammatory response in submandibular lymph nodes. So stop worrying about STD, HIV or any other sinister pathologies. You dont have any of them. Just take some pain remedies like ibuprofen and maintain a good oral hygiene and take some warm comforting beverages like herbal or green tea mixed with honey. I am sure you will be out of this very soon.

I hope it helps.

Ok thank you so much sir. But just to be sure even though I took the test so late after the encounter it's still pretty accurate since it was past the 30 day mark ? And I only took one test.
