Suggest Remedy For Hypersensitivity In Penile Tip

default
Posted on Tue, 29 Dec 2015
Question: my penis has become extremely sensitive/ hypersensitive, especially the tip of the penis. I am uncircumcised male 30 years old. Since last 10 days i am having a lot of discomfort on my penis. Even with the slight touch of underwear or clothes it becomes very discomforting and irritable. There is no pain during urinating, I am not sexually active, last sexual contact i have had was 4 years ago. To prevent this irritation i am currently wrapping my penis with cotton so it doesnt touch the underwear, this helps but not entirely. Please help.

Brief Answer:
Seems to be a viral infection. It is self limiting and needs proper care!

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for consulting and your trust in HCM means a lot to me as a Physician.

I have completely reviewed your health query, and well realize all those concerns. Being your physician, I will take care all of them today and will extend my expertise to solve the problems.

This is an abnormal feeling of the skin transmitted in exaggeration by the oversensitive glans nerves. This type of issues happens when there is a viral infection that casuses the skin nerves more sensitive and responsive even to a minor stimulus as the touch of a cloth.

Sometimes, excessive rubbing or use of soaps or lotion (cosmetic chemical) on the penis e.g. in masturbation may also cause the issue like you have. Avoid any such activity, if you do like that.

Hands are rough surfaced and vigorous jerking/masturbation may cause the damaged nerves on glans.

You need not worry as this is not any sexually transmitted disease. It is self limiting and may take weeks to cure completely. We need to keep a conservative support in treatment.

Management:-
Keep a healthy and balanced diet as pathogens attack more when there is low body immunity or some nutritional deficiency aggravates a health issue.
Keep a judicious supply of water to drink.
No caffeinated drinks and chocolates.
Use cotton only undergarments and loose fitting clothes.
Keep the area clean and dry for better outcome.

Apply ProCort Topical ointment on the glans skin.
Take Ibuprofen by mouth and one multivitamin daily with zinc in it.

Hope I answered all of your queries. Let me know if you have further clinical concerns or doubts. For any disease you have, a timely follow-up is necessary regarding the treatment efficacy and to see if there is a need to change the treatment options. Dear Dr. Muhammed
Thanks for the answer, I appreciate it. The explanation you gave sounds good to me. However, just one question where you mentioned wear lose clothes, here when I wear lose clothes the penis runs to garments alot hence creates discomfort, for that reason i am wrapping my penis with cotton so it doesnt rub against garments, is this ok to cover the tip of penis with cotton or would this create more issues?

Brief Answer:
Use cotton Underwear and then wear loose fitting clothes!

Detailed Answer:
I appreciate your concerns in follow up query. Thanks for the continued trust in world's best healthcare forum HCM.

Please wear the cotton only underwear and yes you may apply cotton without any harm. But change it many times a day. Before putting a sterile cotton on the area be sure the glans skin is completely dry.

Loose fitting clothes will give you the comfort by air crossing in the best possible way and less humidity inside will let the healing fast.

Hope I answered all of your queries. Let me know if you have further clinical concerns or doubts. I will be more than happy to get back to you.

Dear Dr Hanif
The irritation/discomfort on my penis has gone down a bit but I am having pain in my urethra or penis especially after i wear an underwear for a long time ( morning till eve). I have pain in my penis when the underwear is pushed on my penis. Is this worrying or is it because my penis/urethra still hurt and need time to recover. I have taken ibufrn though but no effect on pain in urethra/penis. Please advise

Brief Answer:
Avoid underwear for such a longer time and remain as easy as you can!!!

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for consulting and your trust in HCM means a lot to me as a Physician. I appreciate the concerns you have regarding your health issues.

It is worth noticing that irritation and discomfort on the penis has gone down. It's a good sign of improvement in this case.

Avoid wearing underwear for longer times as it causes pressure on the penis. Remain as easy as you can for a faster recovery.

If you don't have a burning sensation or pain during urination then this discomfort is not much bothersome and will heal up with time. If you have burning and irritation, discomfort or pain especially when you urinate, then it may be a sign of infection of urinary system. In that case we need to administer antibiotics in treatment regimen.

Keep taking a lot of clean drinking water, and Cranberry Juice for faster recovery. Cranberry juice is good for urinary tract inner lining and alleviates discomfort if any.

Dear Dr. Hanif,

Thank you for the response, I just have one hopefully final question. Today I went to my GP about the same problem, the GP checked my penis and said there are no signs of active infection (Surgery also tested my Urine and all results for infection came negative, although they ran the tests on my Urine for like only 5 mins, I dont know what kind of tests could be done in 5 mins). GP also checked the opening of penis/pee hole and said that its bit inflamed but did not say anything. The hypersensitivity has gone down but I still have pain in my urethra and at the tip of my penis i.e. the peehole. Also, I forgot to mention in the previous communication this all started a night after I masturbated. Could my penis have been traumatized due to masturbation, or is some kind of nerve damage and would my penis heal and would I be able to have normal sexual activity in the future. Sorry for bombarding with questions, your advise is very much appreciated!!!

Brief Answer:
This issue is manageable and you will have normal sexual life soon.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for follow up query; and, your trust in HCM is honored by our team of Physicians and management.

It was good decision to consult a Physician for the issue. Better that your tests came back negative and there is no infection.

There is inflammation on the tip of penis that needs medications as aforementioned in our discussions.

Yes, as I discussed before, it may be caused due to excessive, vigorous masturbation.

Yes, definitely it will heal up with time and you will all be able to go for a normal sexual life. No issues to worry on that.

Regarding Antifungal topical medication use, I can't comment on that with surety as Your Physician has done physical examination and has gone for testing too. In this regard, I would recommend you to follow the instructions of your GP or if you are still in doubt and don't want to use antifungal, I would preferably recommend you to consult a UROLOGIST for better diagnosis and management. Urologist will do the proper workup needed and will guide you better.

The medications which I suggested contain some Prescription medications too. You may take a prescription from your GP for the same.

Hope I answered all of your queries. Let me know if you have further clinical concerns or doubts. I will be more than happy to get back to you. Please don't forget to click on 'Close This Discussion' once you're finished with it .
