Question: Hi Doctor,
I am 6 months pregnant.I am having on & off tightening of abdomen but no pain.Having frequent urination symptom also.Yesterday my doc had put me on susten 100mg & explained me the risk of preterm labour. Also advised me to get urine routine & urine culture test done.My urine routine test report shows pus cells 18-20 WBC /HPF and leucocyte esterase positive .Nitrite is negative. What does this result indicate? I am yet to get urine culture report,it will take 4 days.Should I wait for urine culture test report or can i get started with antibiotic based on urine routine test report ?

Brief Answer:
antibiotic needed

Detailed Answer:
Hello mam, thanks for trusting health care magic
You have urinary tract infection as evident from increased pus cells and epithelial cells in urine microscopy.
This is the cause of increased frequency of urine and tightening of the abdomen.
You should start antibiotic as soon as possible because you already have history of mid trimester abortion which puts you in a high risk category for preterm labor.
Take full bed rest for at least 7 days, avoid having sexual contact with your partner and take good sleep.
Start tablet nitrofurantoin 100 mg twice a day for 5 days and increase your intake of water to at least 2 litres a day.
In case cramping increases or there is any excessive discharge or bleeding per vaginum then visit your gynecologist for examination at the earliest.
Also please discuss the culture report as soon as you get it because you might need a change of antibiotic in case culture reports suggests sensitivity to some other antibiotic.
Take care

Brief Answer:
can be taken

Detailed Answer:
Most welcome dear.
Yes nitrofurantoin can be taken with these drugs but make sure you take it with meals always.
It will help you in early recovery and will not affect the action of other drugs.
There is no ultrasound report attached to the query.
You can try uploading the report again so that I can advise you accordingly.
Don't forget to drink ample amount of water.
If possible also take cranberry juice which is readily available in market these days as it is very good in causing early remission in Urinary tract infection.
All the best

Brief Answer:
nothing to worry, normal reports

Detailed Answer:
Hi mam, I have seen the ultrasound report.
Your baby is growing at normal pace and everything is good.
The increased resistance in Doppler of uterine artery is because of placental attachment and this is of no significance.
Moreover as you are already taking ecosprin, there is nothing to worry.
All the best.
