Suggest Remedy For Chronic Back Pain Due To Bulging Disc

default
Posted on Mon, 2 Mar 2015
Question: I am a 66 year old female who has had chronic back pain for six months due to bulging discs in my lower back. I currently have acute gastritis due to stress relating to and medications for pain. I have a history of mild gastritis, hiatal hernia, and gerd (endoscopy in July 2014). I also had a partial sigmoid colectomy in January 2014 as a result of several years of diverticulitis. I have been prescribed six days ago sulcrafate 4x a day, and protonix 2x a day (was on it 1x a day for a number of years). My question concerns the timing to take these medications to get the best results as I am still having symptoms (gnawing under left rib cage, abdominal and intestinal gas, especially on the left side, belching), especially about one hour to 1 1/2 hours after eating. I also have been experiencing runaway anxiety, which I feel has kept me from making much progress with my symptoms. My docotr prescribed clonazepam for my anxiety previously since I do have a generalized anxiety disorder. How do I fit the clonazepam into my medicine schedule too. Previously, I was only taking .25g as needed only several times a month. I eat breakfast at 8 am, lunch at 1 pm, and dinner at 6 pm.

Brief Answer:
GERD therapy will last longer....

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concerns.

Usually, the treatment for gastritis will last 6 to 8 weeks. Meanwhile, in GERD, it will take longer for the therapy: sometimes, you might take one PPIs for several months to several years until the desired effect is established.

Clonazepam is used after evaluating your health situation first (physical examination). That's why it is important to get the opinion of psychiatrist.

Hope it was of help!

My original question was a daily schedule for taking the protonix 2x a day and sulcrafate 4x a day. I don't know when I should be taking them that would work. How should I take these before each meal and at bedtime. I currently take by the following schedule. Sulcrafate at 7 am, breakfast at 8 am, Sulcrafate at noon, lunch at one, sulcrafate at 5pm, protonix at 8 pm, and sulcrafate at 10pm. Is this a good schedule, or should it be adjusted.
