Suggest Remedy For Bloated Feeling When Having Fibroids

Posted on Mon, 23 Feb 2015
Question: I am 49, have large fibroids. I have a scan every 12 months. My last scan did not show ovarian cysts

Lately I feel bloated and full especially closer to the period. Could this be an ovarian cyust and could it grow that large in 6 months since the scan?

Brief Answer:
I dont think it is a cyst.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for writing to us with you health concern.
Bloating and fullness before a period is a normal symptom.
This sometimes gets worsened as you approach menopause.
At 49, you are peri menopausal, and hence, it is very likely that the pre menstrual symptoms are now worsening.
Also, if this was a big cyst leading to bloating, it would not be heightened just before your periods, it would be a general feeling of bloating and pressure all throughout, constant throughout your cycle.
The other question - yes, cysts can get quite big in 6 months' time, but if you have never had one, I dont think it is likely to have one now.
I think that these are perimenopausal hormonal changes.
The fibroids might have gotten bigger or more vascular, leading to such symptoms too.
You need a pelvic scan to determine the exact cause.
All the best
