Question: Hi

I have been having this strange feeling from last 6 months in which I have a strange bubbly feeling originating from middle/upper abdomen and going till throat. It is accompanied by a feeling of not able to breathe/dizzy for few milliseconds. This happens once every 10 days. I have been diagnosed with anxiety disorder in the past.Thats why I didn't discuss this with any doctor. Whenever this feeling happens I get scared. Many a times this happens after eating fried stuff but many a times it comes normally as well. I jog 4-5 times a week for 10 minutes every time without any difficulties. I am active person and have a history of aortic aneurysm in family.

Is this some gastric issue or some arrhythmia?
Had an echo done in XXXXXXX this year. It was normal.
Please guide.

Thanks

Brief Answer:
Reflux

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone very carefully through your query. Your problem seems to be due to gastritis or gastroesophageal reflux. Gastric acid secretion increases after taking fried stuff. I do not find any correlation with arrhythmia.

In order to relieve yourself, you need to do the following:
* Avoid spicy food. Take small but frequent meals. Avoid long gaps between meals.
* Avoid alcohol intake (if it a part of your habit).
* Take Prilosec (omeprazole) once daily before breakfast.
* Take plenty of green leafy vegetables as well as other sources of dietary fibers. Take fiber supplements like isabgol/psyllium husk or senna. I would insist you to increase your dietary fibre intake.
* Regular morning walk and exercise to keep the bowel movements proper.
* If I had a patient like you I would perhaps have suggested Prodep 20 mg tablet once daily for at least 2 months (it may take time for the action to set in).
* Take curd or yogurt on daily basis. It contains beneficial bacteria and should help.
* Yoga and meditation would help.

Hope that helps.

Let me know if I could help further.

Thank you sir.

I forgot to mention that rapid heart beat is accompanied with a sense of diziness. Thankfully this happrns for a second only. Its unbearable and frightening.

As mentioned by you I dont drink or smoke and exercise regularly. I want to confirm of any evaluation is necessary to confirm the reflux part.

Thanks

Brief Answer:
No need to worry

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back.

It is good to know that you don't drink or smoke and exercise regularly. You need not worry about the rapid heart beat.

No specific evaluation is essential for the reflux. It is onlyin case of severe abdominal pain that an upper GI endoscopy would be advisable.
