Brief Answer:
dose regimens explained

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to HCM,

If the period is to fall on 12th november then she has two options:
1. take regesterone 5 mg twice daily for 3 days from 27th and then stop it by 29th october. Periods usually come in the next seven days after stopping the pill. So most likely she will have periods by 5th november [ most of the time they start by 2nd or 3rd november] and they will be almost over by 12th.

2. If she is sure that the periods will come on 12th, then start regesterone 5 mg twice daily from 10th and continue for as long as periods are not needed [ till maximum 7 days]. Periods usually come within the next seven days after stopping the pills. The thing is to begin the drug at least 2 days before the expected period date and the continue it as long as periods are not desired.

Both regimens are equally effective. This is a prescribed medication.

The commonest side effect is nausea and vomiting.

In some women it may cause bloating, fluid retention, weight gain and mood swings. If used for very long time may increase the risk of blood clots. These are rare effects and are generally not seen with short term use.

So congratulations for the marriage and hope you both have a very happy married life. All my best wishes are with you.

Hope this satisfies your query.

Dear Doctor
Thank you very much for your kind suggestion. We need to clear some more queries. Following are they:
1) If we opt first option: After taking medicine 3 days and will stop on 29th, then period is expected to fall on 2nd or 3rd nov. which is 10 days prior in schedule. My fiancee want to know her period of december will fall with respect to new schedule or old schedule. I mean to say in december the period will fall before 12th dec or before 3rd december.
2) Is there any chance of more quantity of discharge in month of december or number of days of period will extend from 7 days to 10 days, due to consumption of medicine.
3)Due to physical relationship in month of november , is there any chance of delay of arrival of period in month of december, due to harmonal changes...as we are planning for 10 days honeymoon trip from 5th of december.

Brief Answer:
cannot predict date of new period.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,

I understand all your problems. However we cannot predict how the periods will behave once we reschedule them. In most cases they follow the date of the new period. Also the amount of bleed is usually not affected in most cases and it follows the usual pattern. So if she has a period from 3rd november the next may fall on 3rd december. But this cannot be predicted absolutely.

So it is better to begin the drug two days before the expected period and then take it for another 7 days. Then she stops it. Periods will come in the next 7 days and your honey moon time will not be an issue as her next cycle would have started by then. Again I cannot predict how the next cycle will behave. It may come on time in accordance with the new date or may get a bit delayed. But the issue usually resolves in a month or so.

Physical relations usually do not alter the periods. So please do not worry about this at all.

Hope this answers the queries.
Feel free for any further questions and I would be glad to help.

Dear Doctor,
Thank you very much. We have one last query.
My fiancee's this month period is expected to start tomorrow and expected to finish on 17th-18th oct. and as per plan to prepond next month period, she need to take medicine on 26-27-28 october, and the period will fall on 3-4 nov. So our query is:
1) we are Recalling her next month period immediate after finishing of october period. As october period is getting finshed on 18th and she will take medicine after 8 days and her next period in november will fall after 15 days of last period of october.
So My question is, recalling of period after 15 days is possible? and will not effect her health?
2)And if she faces nausea and vomiting.what medicines she need to take and what will be its dosage?
We are happy you pulled out us from big problem. and requesting you to reply the above quotes queries.

Brief Answer:
better to post pone

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome back,

I am glad you provide me the dates as it helps me to further clarify the issue.

Since her period is ending just 8 days before the start of the pill, the pill may not work well as she would be taking it too early. So I recommend that she use it to delay it rather than pre pone it as it will work better.
If you still decide to prepone it, then I recommend, she takes it on 28th or 29th as the pill will work better as we have provided more time, In most women bleeding begins after 3-4 days of stopping pills. So she is expected to begin by 3rd [ she will have it by 7th at the maximum] and will continue bleed till 10th. She may take tablet pause MF on day 4 twice daily to stop the bleeding and it should be fine.

She may use tablet emset to help control any nausea once a day. Also preponing or delaying it once does not have any effect on long term health. So do not worry about that at all.

Hope this helps.

Take care.
