Posted on Tue, 29 Sep 2015
Question: I have been on macrobid on and off for five years. What substitute could I use instead? I started a new course one week ago and feel tingling and numbness today in both feet and hands? I have read up on the side effects and am aware that I have some of them.
Other than the numbness in my extremities I also have : Numbness, Tingling or Pain of Hands or FeetSevere
Generalized Disorder of Peripheral Nerves Severe
patchy skin color,
easy bruising
hair loss
cough
hoarseness
skin rash, itching
sore throat though not always.

Brief Answer:
switch antibiotics

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome to HCM.
If you have all these side effect then you should already have stopped this antibiotic. Of course, you must be sure that this is caused by macrobid and not by some other medication that you re taking. Uroinfection can be treated with several antibiotics beside MAcrobid and most effective are Trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole and fluoryinolones such as ciprofloxacine. Wish you good health. Regards
