Brief Answer:
I suggest you use Mirena after discussing with your doctor

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to healthcare magic.
I am Dr Ramadevi Wani. I will be answering your concerns today.

Age alone is not a contraindication for any contraceptive method. Associated physical, medical and familial factors need to be considered when selecting a contraceptive method.
For eg:
You can use Combined oral contraceptives ( preferably the one with low estrogen) if you wish. It is contraindicated if you are a smoker, obese or have hypertension etc. In addition to contraception these pills also help maintain bone mineral density and reduce peri menopausal hot flashes.
Were you using copper IUD? Progesterone release IUD like Mirena can be inserted too. It releases a very small amount of progesterone daily which acts locally on the lining of uterus. In addition to being a very effective contraception it helps to reduce period bleeding too. I would suggest you to use Mirena.
If you wish you and your partner can use condoms. If used correctly and consistently they are about 95% effective in this age group.
Discuss with your doctor about these. After a thorough history and examination your doctor will further guide you regarding the appropriate contraception for you.
I hope this is helpful.
If you have further concerns do write to me. I will be happy to answer.
Best wishes

I am using Mirena now but it appears to be uncomfortable. I have no cycle with it.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome back.
Yes some women stop having periods while on Mirena and that is perfectly normal. Thus it protects women from developing anaemia.
Once it is removed in a month or so your periods will start again.
If this is your only botheration I suggest that you get Mirena inserted again.

If you do not like it you can discuss other options (that I have mentioned) with your doctor.
You can also use diaphragm, shields etc with spermicide. I did not suggest these as they are cumbersome to use.
If you have further concerns do write to me.
Best wishes
Dr Rama
