Question: Is shingles contagious? At what point is it ok to be around people?
How long should I wait to get the vaccine after rash is gone?
Answered by Dr. Chobufo Ditah 1 hour later
Brief Answer:
Shingles is not contagious!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I have reviewed your information fully.

1. Shingles is not contagious. You cannot get shingles by being around someone who hasn’t had it before. However, if the person beside you has never had chicken pox before or is vaccinated against chicken pox, they may rather develop chicken pox. They cannot develop shingles by being around someone with shingles.

2. 6-12months is the recommended wait period after a recent shingle episode before getting a vaccine for shingles.

I hope this helps. I wish you well.

Kind regards!

My daughter is 14. Last night she started breaking out with a rash. The first spot that we saw on the underside of her forearm. it looked like a flea bite and it itched. The second area was on her upper back. it had multiple raised areas about the size of a pimple. The area is red and odd shapes with pimple sized bumps within the red area. I gave her a benadryl and she was able to sleep through the night. This morning she woke up to both sides of her feet itching, red with bumps. Now she has it on her back, under her arms running down the side of her body on both sides. On her neck, on her shoulders, butt, behind one ear and on the back of her arms. I put her in our salt water spa which helped the itching and have given her an oatmeal bath and applied cortazone and given her a benadryl. The itching has subsided and is tolerable now. Any idea what this could be?

During times of stress I ve had issues with my backside. At one point I developed several abscess in my anal area and am somewhat prone to fissures. A while back the hair seemed to grow back there like you wouldn t believe. I actually had to shave to be able to clean down there a few times. Recently the hair is gone but I ve developed what appear to be tiny white headed bumps, almost like a small rash. I thought they were a reaction to aggressive wiping after an unusually messy bowel movement . They didn t seem to change in size or multiply. This morning I tried neosporin and they did seem to reduce in size. When looking in the mirror they are small and white, almost like a pimple without the redness. I have a Dr. Appt. scheduled this week. As a side note I am heterosexual and always practice safe sex , nothing goes near my anal area. Thoughts?
