Brief Answer:
Not a serious concern in the absence of other findings or symptoms

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
There is splitting or prominence of pelvicalyceal system in your kidneys. It will help to know if there is splitting in both kidneys or only on one side.

As long there is no stone visualized or suspected (as mentioned in the report) and no urinary symptoms like pain in kidney region or during urination or a mass in pelvis, there is no serious concern.

The causes for mild splitting of pelvicalyceal system are the following
(i) It can be that the bladder was completely full at the time of ultrasound scan
(ii) The kidney pelvicalyceal system is appearing full by itself (extrarenal pelvis) and is an extension of normal appearance.
(iii) Rarely an infection of urinary system and kidneys (recent or old) can cause such a finding but this is likely only if you have symptoms like pain in the region of kidney and problems like burning urination or discoloration of urine or any kidney infections in the past.
(iv) Stones in lower ureter can also cause fullness of pelvicalyceal system and this needs to be cross checked by seeing the ureter openings in the urinary bladder. This is always done when doing the scan.
(v) Any mass in abdomen including retroperitoneal area causing pressure on ureters lower down in the pelvis. As there is no such mention made by you, this is not the case.

Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.

Hope your query is answered.

Brief Answer:
Patient can take medicines for high BP and hypertriglyceridemia

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing back with an update.

IVU is a test in which a series of X rays are taken after giving the patient an injection of non ionic contrast by IV route. It requires the patient to be on overnight fast so that the kidney shadows are clearly visible when taking X rays.

The patient can take medications for high BP and hypertriglyceridemia like Tazloc AM and Rozavel 20. This will not affect the outcome of IVU test. Patient should empty their bowel clearly in the morning before going for the test.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Regards,
Dr.Vivek
