Posted on Tue, 2 Sep 2014
Question: my partner has Sinusitis symptoms .... blocked nasal passage, facial pain, headache ..... she started to take a Russian made antibiotic ... 'Cifran' .... 24 hours ago ... I am concerned that this could be detrimental as it was self administered & not on profressional advice ... we will go to a Doctor if her condition has not improved within the next 24 hours ..... should she stop taking this antibiotic ?

Brief Answer:
Can continue with Cifran...

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for posting the query. Do not worry! with appropriate treatment she will be alright.

She can continue using Cifran 500mg. Along with that, she will require a mucolytic such as bromhexine or ambroxol (to remove the clogged secretions in the sinuses), saline nasal spray and a OTC pain reliever.

Also, she should do steam inhalation 3-4 times a day for atleast 2 minutes, drink plenty of warm water and avoid chilled food & beverages/coffee/smoking (if any).

With the above measures she will be definitely better. If she is not getting better within 3-4 days, consult your doctor for a complete evaluation and management.

Hope I have answered your query. I will be available for the follow-up queries.
