Is It Possible To Get Pregnant Post Unprotected Sex Despite Being On Depo Shots?

Question: Hi so I've been on and off depo for the past year only because its hard to get my shot being in the military my last shot was around Christmas time but even that shot was late so i was basically started repo all over again I recently had unprotected sex with my fiancé in late january and I've been feeling sick ever since then i had pneumonia and an upper respiratory infection got medication but was still sick they took a pregnancy test and blood work but it was only 10 days after the unprotected sex I'm not sure if that was too early i still always feel nausea but have yet to throw up i haven't had a period since october and i just started to spot today and I've been having really bad back and abdominal pains I'm scared because my mom got pregnant on depo and I'm worried i might also be.

Hi,

I can understand your concerns.

If you are sick within just 10 days of unprotected intercourse then most probably the cause is not pregnancy.

Whether you are pregnant or not can be known only after 5 weeks. The tests will be inaccurate now.

The reason for your absent periods and cramps and feeling sick can also be due to irregular depot injection.

My advise is to get a sonography pelvis to know for sure what is the cause and then we can treat accordingly.

A sonography will also tell if you are pregnant.
