Is A DNA PCR Test After 35 Days Of Exposure Conclusive?
Question: I received unprotected oral sex from a woman with an indeterminate HIV test result. I did 4th Gen Duo test at 32 days and DNA PCR test at 35 days. Both are negative.
Here is my question:
1. Is the test conclusive?
2. Since the DNA PCR test only for HIV 1 and p24 is only for HIV-1 Ag, What are the risks i have for HIV 2?
3. The woman is pregnant. Does pregnancy cause indeterminate results?

1. Oral sex carries a very low risk as per CDC XXXXXXX compared to blood transfusion, sharing of needles , prick with sharp and infected instruments, anal and vaginal sex. Human saliva is not infectious unless it is contaminated with blood.
2. Risk is low with HIV 2. Prevalence of HIV 2 is very very low. So you can ignore.
3. There is separate HIV 2 RNA PCR is available with certain labs. It can detect the HIV 2 particle up to the extent of 900 copies. If it is in a lower level test could not detect the infection and will become reliable by 4 weeks after the exposure. Other antibody detecting tests like Rapid tests, ELISA, Western blot and 4th generation tests can detect HIV 2 after the window period and very much reliable 12 weeks after the exposure.
