default
Posted on Wed, 27 Aug 2014
Question: Dear Doctor.
My nephew needs to take his shot of vaccination and needs to have pentavalent (five-in-one) vaccine.
There have been conflicting reports with regard to AP and WP vaccination.

The doctor has asked him to take QuinVaxem which is a WP vaccine. I have been reading some reports online and am concerned.

Would appreciate your advice.

Thank you very much.

Brief Answer:
Whole cell vaccine is good

Detailed Answer:
Hi...
The concerns are -
1. Acellular vaccine is less protective
2. Whole cell better protection but pain & fever is more.
3. Quinvaxem is whole cell but no scientific proof for the painless nature it claims of. Moreover deaths are reported.
Suggestions-
1. Go with whole cell vaccines schedule please
2. Need to know your nephew's age
