Thyroid gland is an important organ and produces thyroxine hormone which is utilised for important functions in the body.
The generation of thyroxine happens by a feedback mechanism on thyroid gland and is dependent on the level of thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH).
When the circulating thyroxine is low then TSH level increases and a balanced TSH means that the thyroxine level is normal.
When there is decreased function of the thyroid gland then the level of thyroxine produced is below normal and the TSH level increases.
Thyronorm is the same as thyroxine and doctors prescribe a dose of thyronorm after keeping in mind the thyroxine and TSH levels.
Probably your thyroid was functioning significantly below normal and therefore your doctor gave you a dose of 150 mcg.
It is important to do thyroid function test including TSH levels regularly (every 3 to 6 months) and then change dose if require.
In your situation probably the TSH levels show that you need to continue 150 mcg thyronorm to fulfill the requirements of thyroid function.
It is not that your thyroid gland has completely stopped but that your TSH levels are probably in normal range on taking 150 mcg thyronorm.
