How To Test If Hepatitis C Is Completely Cured?

default
Posted on Tue, 7 Oct 2014
Question: My name is XXXX. I have/had Hep C. Since my second round of Interferon 11yrs ago, I have been in remission with all viral count blood test coming up negative for Hep C. My present family doctor said if it's been 11yrs, it's not in remission, it's cured. Is this really true that it is "Cured" rather than in remission? Or is this opinion by my doctor still a controversy in saying that it is Cured.
I meant to send you the question I wrote in the box asking what medications I take. Basically asking you if you can take Abilify and Dexidrine together.

Please read what I wrote in the medication I take area info box.
Thank you for your help in this matter.

Brief Answer:
Completely cured,specify diagnosis....

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

Thank you for sharing with us your concern.

If all your hep.C tests (negative PCR, positive recombinant immunobolt assay), then, it means, that you have been completely clean your body from the C virus (completely cured).

With regards to Abilify (Aripiprazole) and Dexidrine (Dextroamphetamine), yes, they can be used together depending on the diagnosis. Can you specify the diagnosis your doctor made to you so I can explain it specifically what they can do for that particular condition?

Hope it helped!

I will try and make it short. My sister has been in a total mental breakdown for the past 1 1/2yrs. She is obsessed about her problems, very depressed, extremely negative, can't decide what to eat, she is 5'4" 1/2 and 100lbs., can't take shower, has excuse for everything and thinks she knows everything about drugs and what they do to her body. Also Extreme Anxeity. Also in a lot of pain from pelvic floor dysfunction, possibly, she also has Lyme disease. So is she bipolar or mental from Lyme disease or other mental disease, brain tumor... We don't know and it's hard to get her to a doctor. She also has ADD which she takes Dexedrine. We want her on antipsychotics but my sister says they decrease dopamine which counter acts the effect of the Dexedrine. That's why I asked if you can take Abilify and Dexedrine together... Thank you for your response. Let me know if you get this email..

Brief Answer:
Various ways of action, can be used together...

Detailed Answer:
Hi back XXXXXXX

Yes, I have just received your e-mail. There is a lot of medical data regarding your sister's health problems.

At this point, I realized that you want to have a specific answer to give to your sister and make her decide to take abilify while she is already taking Dexedrine. Correct me if not right!

Now, first, as she is not thinking sanely, then, she needs immediate medical attention. Further psychological examination is advised to evaluate the severity of her symptoms.

Usually, patients with ADD are also developing psychological changes at some point in their life.

Yes, Abilify can be used together with Dexedrine:
- Abilify is an antipsychotic drug, with main action to restore the balance of nurotransmitters (natural chemicals in the brain). This drug will help your sister in:
- improving concentration
- thinking clearly and positively about herself.

Its main actions are in 2 parts of her brain:
- mesolimbic pathway (where there is an over-activity of dopamine; abilify (aripiprazole) has a partial D2 agonism, thus, will decrease the activity of this mesolimbic pathway, leading to reduced symptoms.
- mesocortical pathway, where there is hypofunction of dopaminic neurotransmission. This drug will enhance the dopaminergic activity leading to positive changes in her mood.

As you may see, there is a long and complicated discussion. Overall, this drug will have different effects on dopamine neurotransmission in different parts of brain. The final result is positive changes in her mood.

- With regards to dexedrine, this drug acts as a stimulant of nervous system, which has also multiple modes of actions. The final result is improvement of ADD symptoms.

As they both have non-contradictory effect on dopaminergic neurotransmission, these 2 drugs can be used together.

Hope it answered to your queries!
All the best to all of you!

Brief Answer:
Psychiatrist advice is needed...

Detailed Answer:
Hi back XXXXXXX

I have gone through the letter that your sister wrote. I did notice that she is very depressed and is hoping faith. At this moment, I highly recommend to get her further evaluated by a psychiatrist and discuss with him/her if your sister can benefit of psycho-therapy.

Although she is having her medications, she needs a more specialized attention. Psychiatrist or/and psycho-therapist can help her.

God bless!
