It depends upon their half life, patient's age, clinical condition, their kidney and liver functions. It would be great if you can tell the exact beta blocker. 2. Second aspect of problem is that a number of studies say that underlying propensity of AV node (the site on which beta blockers act to cause heart attack) is important in these patients. Many a times patient may never come of out of complete AV block which seems to be apparently drug induced or a patient may take much longer than calculated by simple pharamacodynamics. Maximum half life of metoprolol is 7 hours in a subject with normal liver function.A drugs is almost completely inactive after 4-5 half lives. Metoprolol should not be active after 35 hours of last dose. However in individuals cases this duration may be longer as has been seen in clinical experience. It is not clear that for how long you are in complete heart block.
