Question: I recently was prescribed Bactrim & had an allergic reaction resulting in hives on my chest, back & neck as well a swelling in the perineal area. I was taken off the Bactrim & prescribed Cefdinir & prednisone 20mg, 2 tabs bid for 4 days then 20mg , 1 tab for 4 days. How long should I expect the symptoms to last?

Brief answer....generally few days ranging from 4-7 days
Detailed answer..
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
I have read your query and understand your concern.
The reaction you had is called as antibiotic medication allergy and ranges from mild symptoms like rash and hives to severe symptoms like breathlessness and fall in blood pressure.Normally these allergic reactions are self limiting but sometimes anti allergics are required to be given,as in your case.
With these medications you should be all right maximum in a week to 10 days time.
Make sure that you don't take  BACTRIM in future.
I hope it helps, however you are most welcome to revert to me for any further query.
Best of luck
Thanks
