Question: Hello doctor, my child is having fever by past 4 days.doctor prescribed fevago DS 5ml dosr every 6 hrs and if fever above 102f, then meftal-p, 5 ml every 6hrs. We continued for 3 days, fever come and goes during intervals of 4- 6 hrs. Yesterday his fever went up to 104.5f and we did tepid sponging and blood test. Found okay as pet doctor except dc% higher. Doctor gave antibiotic for this and told to continue other medicines.
Today again in the mrning fever was low, noon time it was 102. I gave meftal 5ml. But before 6hr period the fever returns.. actuay after 4 hrs...
Can we give him mefthal and paracetamol within shorter intervals ? Now after 2 hrs sponging fever came down to 101.5 and i gave paracetamol... how long we need to wait before giving another dose? Hr is 4 yrs age and 14.5kg weight.

Brief Answer:
The doses of paracetamol and Meftal-P are independent of one another.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through the details and understand your concern. Most often such symptoms are due to viral infections although the cause is likely to be bacterial if the WBC count is found to be raised.

The minimum gap between two doses of paracetamol is 4-6 hours. The doses of paracetamol and Meftal P are independent of each other. Minimum gap between doses of Meftal P is 6-8 hours. I do not think that they would be needed to be used simultaneously. However, if needed they can be given. Also give tepid sponging.

Please be patient. It may take a few days for the recovery to occur. It should spontaneously resolve in 5-7 days.

Hopefully that would help. Feel free to write back in case of further queries.

Regards
