How Can A Red Rash On The Vagina Be Treated?

default
Posted on Tue, 23 May 2017
Question: I am caring for my 16 month old Grand Daughter. She just finished a prescription for amoxicillin for an ear infection. She had croup as well. Friday evening she developed a red rash on the outer skin of her vagina. We have only used premium diapers and powder since she was born. We have tried design as well as changing diapers frequently. We also gently clean the area of any urine as well. Nothing seems to work. Any ideas? Btw, we are licensed Foster parents.

Application of zinc oxide containing ointment will help

Detailed Answer:
Hi

I have gone through the query and do understand your concern.
Most common cause of rashes in diaper area in this age is contact dermatitis/diaper rash. Other less common cause of some fungal infection.
Its good to know that you already taking best care for your baby.
Application of zinc oxide cream(nappy cream) over the rashes helps in early recovery. Routine care like keeping the affected area in open air to let it dry, avoiding rubbing of the creative during cleaning and frequent changing of diaper is also needed.
I don't think this rash is anyhow related to upper respiratory infection or amoxicillin antibiotic.
Even if the rashes persist, please consult a pediatrician for clinical evaluation to rule out any fungal infection.

I hope this helps.
Please let me know of you have any more questions.
Wishing for your baby's good health.
Regards
