Does Sudden Nexium Withdrawal Cause Excessive Sweating?

default
Posted on Tue, 23 Sep 2014
Question: Was taking nexium 40mg for about 3 yrs got walking pneumonia about 2 months ago then during my physical doctor upped my synthoid from .75 to .1. I started getting sweaty so thought it was synthoid so checked symptoms for both synthold and nexium since those are the two medications I was on. I'm a 65year old woman. I was getting tremors felt like I the top part of body was shaking. Found out these can be symthoms of taking nexium too long (pneumonia can also be caused by this) and having low magnesium. I bought a supplement but only used it a few days. And the symthoms of shaking went away. I also stopped taking the nexium this was about 2weeks ago. But now I get really warm after I eat and feel my acid reflex kicking back in and have no appetite. Went to the hospital last Tuesday since I felt bad and they checked my synthoid level and said it was fine. I've been taking the .75 I have left. They said my magnum level was ok too and could find nothing wrong. Could the sweating and the overheating be due to my stopping the nexium cold turkey? I bought tums buy only took 2 today. Should I try taking the magnum suppliment again. What would be best to take now for my acid reflex?

Brief Answer:
dose increment to 1mg caused it. 0.5 is theMaximum

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

To me it looks like the upping of synthroid dosage as tremors and heating are all very classic for thyroid imbalance and advancing age makes the metabolism slower so slight dosage in old can cause exaggerated effects. synthroid above age 50 to be titrated as per age and case basis. .75 milligram is still higher dosage. I would not go for anything more than .5 mg or 500 microgram in one day.

Nexium is a proton pump inhibitor and there is no such adverse effect like this on abrupt stopping of the medicines. Nor the pneumonia can cause it.

Modify the diet and lifestyle for Reflux as 80 % cases get relief by it.

the only thing you need to start with is modifying diet and lifestyle and adapt gut friendly measures to help this issue.
Lose your weight. If your BMI is 25 or above you need to lose weight. Calculate you BMI Here http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/guidelines/obesity/BMI/bmi-m.htm
Alcohol ? say no to it. Now is the time. Get sign up to Alcohol Anonymous and seek help to gradually resolve this addiction. Booze will ooze the health out of you.
Coffee,Chocolates, citrus juices, tomato based products like ketchups, sauces, pastes etc, Peppermints, all the onion family, beans are some of the diet you need to avoid to relieve symptoms.
If you are fond of eating, time to stop it. reduce diet intake, instead of increasing the quantity, increase the frequency, 5 times short meals instead of 3 bigger ones will be better.
If you sleep just after or within 3 hours of meal intake, this habit needs to be stopped. Increase the interval.
When you sleep, elevating the head side of the bed at least 8 inches would be a good addition to the plan to combat GERD.
Bending and stooping and upside down hangings with all other unnatural postures need to be avoided.

Nutshell stay in touch with your endocrinologist and keep an eye on thyroid functions and then titrate the dose accordingly to avoid any such symptoms in future.

I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discusison please.

May the odds be ever in your favour.
