Question: Hi: I had rickets when I was learning to walk, even though mother gave me Cod Liver Oil. I now have Fibromyalgia, Polymyalgia Rhuematica, spinal stenosis and scoliosis. Could this all be coming from the fact that I had Rickets? Not a question but couple of things more. I have had both hips replaced and neck fusion, colectomy, Cholestectomy, Hysterectomy, total, Appendectomy. Lumbar spine is totally fused with arthritis. Guess you don't need to know any more, right??

Brief Answer:
Could be genetic

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for your query,

I understand your concern. Rickets is a disease that is caused by a lack of calcium and vitamin D, which can cause disorders of growth and development of bones. Many of the diseases you mentioned are genetically caused. People always think that rickets is only caused in situations you don't have enough vitamin D and calcium, but there are some sorts of rickets in which you develop this disease despite having enough vitamin D and calcium.

Therefore, fybromialgia, polymyalgia rheumatica and rickets are genetically caused. Skoliosis and spinal stenosis are conditions due to rickets.

I hope this answer was helpful to you and that I helped you with your question.

Is there any treatment that helps to ward off disfigurement from scoliosis? What would you suggest for treatment, pain meds, or supplements. There wasn't any Rickets in my family that I ever knew of. What is the best thing I can do now? The pain meds I take don't really take care of the pain, but I have tried Oxycontin, and things cross the blood brain barrier on me, and I couldn't think or function properly. Have tried Gabapentin for Neuropathy, and it affects my brain also. Thanks.one thing that disturbs me is the fact that I have a pelvis that is higher on the left side and makes me walk with the left leg seeming shorter but my R. leg has been shorter all my life. Can't seem to know on which leg to put a lift to balance me out. Some think the R hip needs to be raised on the R side, but that makes my shortness on left even worse, but putting a lift in the L leg throws my back off, any suggestions. I was ok with all that until I had hip replacement on both hips, and now the L is shorter, when the R had been shorter previously. Very confusing I know. My legs are the same length, the problem is in the pelvis being crooked. To look at me, all one can see is that I'm veering to the right, and somewhat forward, otherwise I look pretty normal, so far, but this past year has really changed my appearance. When I stand, looking in a mirror, I drop a lot on the R side. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you

Brief Answer:
try to excercise

Detailed Answer:
hello and thank you for this new query.
I understand that you are disturbed because scoliosis causes asymmetry of your body. Unfortunately it is impossible to fix it wholly. My suggestion is to try, for both, your pain and your disfigurement, to excercise and strengthen your muscles which will than support your body on a proper way.
These excercises should be performed and leaded by a physician who is learned to work with patients with your condition.
In a lot of cases this can help, not immediately, but after some time you will manage progress.

I hope I helped you with this query.
