Does Molasses Help In Treating Uterine Fibroids?

Question: Hi Dr. Ramadevi Wani,

I have more questions. I went to a new obgyn and they said that they see the uterus lining thickening a bit and also something that could be a polyp. originally if you recall I went to get checked out because my period went longer than a week and was more painful for the two past months.

the radiologist that did the sono at this last doctor said that she thinks it's not a polyp but another fibroid that's pressing on another fibroid and may be causing this pain and prolonged period.
I have never had bleeding between the periods btw. the new obgyn still said that she wants either a biopsy of the uterus done blind or hysteroscopy.

however since I went there on April 20th I started taking natural medicine such as black strap molasses every day which I heard help with that. and my period last time was a lot less heavier and only lasted about a week as before.

my questions are:

***I heard mollases curing the fibroids and even the thick lining of the uterus, what if it's already helping now and instead of putting myself through this surgery abd anaesthesia, I could just wait another month to see how my period is and may be do another sonogram. may be by then I will not need a hysteroscopy?

*** in the event the lining is still thick would waiting an extra month be bad, like if something is there it would have progressed more by now making it difficult to treat?

*** this doctor obviously will not give me cytotec before the procedure as she doesn't practice this way. this would be done at a hospital under anesthesia. but does the fact that I had such horrible pain from just this medication indicate that I could be in this much pain or more than most people after hysteroscopy?

*"" I have bleeding hemorrhoids and IBS and issues with my stomach all the time. does that make it more likely for things to go wrong during the hysteroscopy like puncturing the colon and such?

it's not easy for me to take off work for this and I don't want to tell my mom as she would really worry if I had this done. thus, I'd rather avoid this if it's not absolutely necessary. not to mention the expense. plus after my ordeal with cytotec I'm really nervous.

please let me know what you think. I'm afraid the doctor would just want to do this ASAP more for their reasons than whether it's necessary for me.

thank you
doctor

Brief Answer:
The hysteroscopy procedure is a simple

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Welcome Back.

There is no scientific evidence that black strap molasses reduces the size of fibroids.
However black strap molasses is rich in vitamins and minerals. It can improve your iron stores in the body and is good for bones too. So you can continue to use it.

You can definitely wait for a month and repeat the ultrasound after your period bleeding. This post menstrual ultrasound gives a clear picture regarding endometrium. Waiting for one month is not going to harm you.

The horrible pain you suffered earlier was the side effect of the tablet Cytotec.
Hysteroscopy procedure done under anesthesia is not going to cause pain in the post operative period.

The hysteroscopy procedure is a simple procedure. It is not going to result in injury to colon etc. Your medical conditions will not put you at high risk of complications.

I hope I have answered your concerns.
If you have further queries, do write to me. I will be happy to answer.

Best wishes,
