Question: Hi there

I’m a 42 yo healthy male with mild psoriasis and psuedogout. Recent routine blood tests were normal.

Three weeks ago whilst I had a mild sore throat and cold, I discovered a raised lymph node on my right side of neck 2 inches down from ear lobe. Doctor checked it at the time and said it was due to throat.

It is still there now I’m well again but has not gone away. Lump feels about 1.5 cm and not really tender but do have slightly sore neck when I turn it.

Last night I also discovered a small flesh coloured lump at the bottom of my right tonsil. It is round 5mm but this morning maybe slightly smaller.

I have no other symptoms and feel OK apart from tiredness from shift work.

I am stressing out over this thinking it’s lymphoma or throat cancer. Does this seem something to be worried about. I’m going to GP this afternoon.

Brief Answer:
Sore throat with lymphadenopathy

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to HealthcareMagic and thanks for putting up the query
The growth in the tonsil appears to be benign lesion in the picture. It is surely not lymphoma because in lymphoma whole tonsil is involved not a part of it. You should get an endoscopic examination of the throat done and if required a biopsy should be done to rule out any malignancy.
The lymph node enlarged is probably due to sore throat only or the tongue changes you are having.
Please tell me what medicines have you been taking so far so that I can suggest you better.
Any history of tobacco use or smoking?
Use hexidine gargles and take tablet vitamin c once daily.
Follow up with the required information.
Take care
Thanks and regards

Hi there thanks for the advice. I have been to the GP who said the actual throat lu,p has gone down a little which is good. The node felt swollen but not more than 1cm now in size.

I will gargle and see how it goes. I did used to smoke around 1 pack a week.
I checked all the blood results from dec 12 and they were good although the calcium level was in the very high end of normal range. All other bloods were good and included liver, kidney and thyroid tests as well as full blood count.

Brief Answer:
Sore throat with lymphadenopathy

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for the information

The decrease in the size of swelling indicates it is inflammatory in nature. Continue with the medicines as advised and follow up again after 5 days.
Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Thanks and regards

Age 38, Female. 5' 7'', 130 lbs. Hello doctor, I am a chronic worrier and hypochondriac, and for the last couple months I am convinced I have throat cancer. Yes, I am a smoker and I tend to smoke more when I am nervous about stuff like this. Used to drink and party in my 20's but now I barely touch alcohol. It all started about 2 months ago, had this funny "ache" right below my left ear. Could barely feel it, but it was enough to make me start worrying. It's weird, but it almost seems worse when I have an empty stomach. (I also have acid reflux.) Just a couple days ago, I noticed the tonsil on the same side as the pain (left) has about 3 white dots on it, one looks kind of raised and inflamed. Then that little flap after the tonsil (right next to the uvula) has 2 tiny, tiny pimples on it, same color as the tonsil. I have no sore throat. The pain in now regular ear pain, like when I get my ear infections. I showed my throat to my Mom who is a nurse, and she said it's nothing, just infection. My tonsils are both about the same size. I talked to my Uncle who is a doctor, and he said I'm too young for throat cancer, that my voice would be hoarse if I did, and the whole thing sounds like a virus that settled in that general area. But I still don't believe anybody. Oh, and the more I get scared and concentrate on it, the pain gets INCREDIBLY worse in my ear...it starts stabbing and pinching. When I settle down and tell myself it's not cancer, the pain almost goes away. Tylenol also knocks the pain out for hours. (???) What do you think is going on? I DO still have the white dots on the tonsil and the 2 little raised bumps.... Thanks!!

Last year, i started having that pain in my tonsils, ears hurt and having a high fever that lasts up to two weeks. This happens almost every 3months up to now. I never consulted a Doctor. I'm 19 years old, female. I remembered the days when i swallowed my boyfriends semen, this is where it all started. I drink paracetamol and anti bacterial, lozenges and pineapple juice for relief. Will it be throat cancer when i get old? What is this?

My wife is 45 she had a difficult tonsillectomy, was in hospital for 2 weeks, also had infection.

been now 4 weeks post operative but still extremely fatigued, occasional vomiting. Just been to doctors, said she has thrush of the mouth and a low lymphocyte count.

My question is she lost 3 kg whilst in hospital -due to not eating very well.

However she is eating and drinking much better now, but has now lost a further 2kg. Prior to tonsillectomy she was having recurrent night sweats, thus with the low white cell and wight loss could it be a form of throat cancer.
