Does Indigestion Cause PVC's?

default
Posted on Wed, 25 Jun 2014
Question: I have had pvc's for 20 years plus and take Tenormin, 25 mg. twice a day and it has helped tremendously.Lately i have had indigestion after meals which i think is triggering my pvc's after eating. The last two times i had this i took some milk to stop the indigestion which it did,but along with that my pvc's stopped and my heart is humming along nicely. Is there a connection between indigestion and pvc's, and does my " cure" sound reasonable?

Brief Answer:
Small amounts will ease indigestion being liquid

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear. Thanks for giving me an opportunity to address your query.

I am happy to hear that you have been doing well on Tenormin for PCV's.
There is a relation between indigestion and PCV's as you rightly pointed out.

Vagus nerve being pitched on the top of your stomach gets trigerred during indigestion inturn results in PVC's.These usually lasts with for a couple of minutes(10min approximately) unless you are anxious in which case it might prolong.

Adding small amount of milk would have eased indigestion since it would hasten the passage of stomach content (being a liquid diet).Large amount would actually exacerbate indigestion.

I would suggest to to avoid or consume less fat substances.Advise to chew your food well, add plenty of fibre to your diet.Drink lots of water/fluids. Moderate exercise. All this helps you to stay fit and healthy.Happy eating. All the best.

Hope I have answered your query.

I know there can be problems when RX meds are taken with OTC meds, so my questions is this: is it safe to take a basic multi vitamin while i am taking Tenormin , and also is it safe to use an OTC indigestion medicine such as Tums, etc.while on Tenormin ( 25mg/ twice daily) ? Thank you .

Brief Answer:
Multivitamins are fine.No to antacids

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for writing back.

Multivitamin tablets do not have any interactions with Tenormin and they have to be taken at night time after meals and can be safely taken.Herbal vitamins are not advisable.

I do not suggest Tenormin with Tums because tums contain calcium carbonate which not only decreases the gut absorption but also decreases the effect by unspecified mechanism.

Other antacids which contain aluminium hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide also have significant interaction and don't prefer using them.

You may safely take Tab.Rabeprazole 20mg (available over the counter) once daily every morning half an hour before breakfast for 2-4 weeks. Regularize your food habits.Avoid spicy, oily foods.Add fresh fruits and vegetables to your diet and this shall relieve any acidity.

Hope this answers your query.
