Should I Start Taking Metamucil After Taking Solid Foods To Prevent Diverticulitis?

I have used Metamucil to prevent diverticulitis attacks, but I stopped for two weeks. That was a mistake I had a severe diverticulitis attack two days ago and I am on a clear liquid diet. My question is when do I begin taking Metamucil? Should I take it now or wait until I am back on solid foods?

Thanks for contacting HCM

I am sorry to hear that you have had a bout of diverticulitis. You are currently taking only a liquid diet and soon you will be able to start taking regular food again. The reason for the liquid diet is to give your GI tract time to rest after the diverticulitis. When you are feeling better and able to eat that is when I recommend starting your Metamucil again. The Metamucil gives your stools more form and more liquid in the intestines. This will making going to the bathroom easier and reduce pressure in your colon. So once you can start eating regular food that is when you should start back on Metamucil.

Hope this helps answer your query. If you have any further questions please feel free to contact us again.
