Can Pre-ejaculatory Fluid Cause Pregnancy?

default
Posted on Mon, 20 Jun 2016
Question: Hello, I am a 33 year old fairly healthy female. My cycles range from usually 30 - 34 days. I normally have noticeable egg white CM and mittelschmerz when I ovulate. I have not felt it this month. My last period started on April 24th. I had unprotected sex with my 44 year old male partner twice on May 6th. He pulled out when he ejaculated both times. He takes medicine for ED. I have not felt as though I have ovulated before or after, and have taken an OPK today that was negative. I am on no from on contraceptive. This is not a good time for pregnancy. What are my chances of becoming pregnant from one night at this point in my cycle with all of the factors above?

Brief Answer:
Chance is extremely low to nil.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing to us. I understand your concern.

1) As per your last date of period (24th April) and duration of cycle, you will mostly ovulate around 10th to 14th May as ovulation occurs 14 days prior to next due date.

2) In this case, your chance of pregnancy is extremely LOW to NIL if your previous cycle was quite regular. Also, your recent OPK test is NEGATIVE.

Your partner used withdrawal method (pulled out) before ejaculation. It has failure rate 15 - 28% per year and pre-ejaculatory fluid will be a risk factor. Another thing, you are NOT on the contraceptive pill.

3) I suggest you to await for next period and do one home pregnancy test if you miss it. It will help to clear doubt. Practice safe sex in future.

Hope, I have answered your query. Wish your good health and take care.

Yes, I have two children already and they were both planned. Safe sex is usually used. Most of the time my cycles are predictable, but some months I have had a period 2 weeks apart and some 28 days. The norm is 30 - 34 though. What are my chances if this is a shorter cycle. The 2 week cycle usually only happens when I workout extremely hard or change my eating habits rapidly. This is just not an ideal time to have a child, so I am overly nervous.

Brief Answer:
Chance will be slightly increased if cycle is 28 days or less.

Detailed Answer:
Hello Dear,

Welcome back again.

If you have shorter cycle (28 days or less), then your ovulation day will be around 8th May or earlier. In that case, chance of pregnancy will be slightly increased (in comparison to regular 30 -34 days cycle) if there is pre-ejaculatory fluid.

You have to await for next coming period and rule out pregnancy by undergoing home pregnancy test. It will help to relieve your mental stress.

Hope, it helps for your information. Good luck and take care.

Well, I took an OPK on the 8th and today and both were negative with no signs of ovulation. No egg white cm and no one sided cramping like usual. I had a little pelvic and back pain after sex, but that is not unusual. Would it be of any help to go get plan b at this point? It will have been 72 hours around 1 am.

Brief Answer:
Plan B can be taken within 72 hrs of sex.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,

Welcome back again.

Above features mostly suggest that you are NOT ovulated till now. However, it is unpredictable sometimes by clinical sign alone. OPK test is rather helpful.

However, I suggest you to take Plan B (emergency pill) as few hours are left to complete 72 hrs. It will help to avoid minimal risk of pregnancy and give stress relief.

Hope, it helps for your information. Good luck and take care.

I was not able to find Plan B pill. I am so nervous. Does erectile dysfunction cause any fertility issues?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Dr. Soumen Patra (4 hours later)
Brief Answer:
ED doesn't cause fertility issue if under medication.

Detailed Answer:
Hello Dear,

Welcome back again.

1) If emergency pill (Plan B) is NOT available at this moment, you have nothing to do beside waiting for next period. Do pregnancy test if you miss it.

2) Erectile Dysfunction may cause fertility issue or problem in pregnancy if it is NOT treated properly. If your partner is on the medication, then there will be NO fertility related issue.

Hope, it helps for your information. If you have any other query, you can directly ask me anytime.

Ok, I know I am being repetitive. But what are the odds of becoming pregnant from one time of unprotected sex?

Thanks for helping me.
doctor
Answered by Dr. Dr. Soumen Patra (1 hour later)
Brief Answer:
15-20% if unprotected sex is done during fertile period.

Detailed Answer:
Hello Dear,

Welcome back again. I am happy to answer your query.

1) If you did one time unprotected sex 2 days before or close to ovulation day, you have 15-20% chance of pregnancy in that cycle.

2) Chance of pregnancy is decreased to 1-5% on the other days or rest of the cycle.

Hope, it helps for your information. Good luck.

Last question. I have noticed my cervical mucus is more dry and there has been spots of brown mixed in with the dry like cervical mucus. I have had a lot of back cramping today. I know it's way too early for any pregnancy symptoms since the sex was 3 days ago. Could this maybe be ovulation or the signs of an impending early period (happens to me a few times out of the year)

Brief Answer:
Mostly sign of ovulation. Do OPK test

Detailed Answer:
Hello Dear,

Thanks for query.

You can't be pregnant within 3 days of sexual intercourse. In my point of view, it could be sign of ovulation. Do OPK test to clear doubt.

Hope, it helps for you. Take care and good luck.
