Can Nitric Oxide Lozenges Be Taken When Diagnosed With PAD?

default
Posted on Fri, 29 May 2015
Question: Have been diagnosed with PAD and have stent in one leg. Am taking 25 mg of metoprolol 2x's daily and 50 mg losartan 1x daily. Also 5 mg Eliquis 2x's daily along with a low dose aspirin. My blood pressure ranges from 125 to 142/58-62 and pulse rate usually around 58-60 (these are from just getting out of bed measures). Have been reading a lot about nitric oxide. I do not like taking rx drugs and would really like to find a natural alternative. Have been taking natural food supplements for years; however, my primary care physician does not believe in doing so. Is it possible for me to start nitric oxide lozenges safely?

Brief Answer:
I suggest you continue the same medicines.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX,
Thank you for the information.
Your medicines appear to be alright. There are however no long term studies on Nitric oxide lozenges that I know of and its effects thereof. Therefore, I do not recommend you to start using it. Even if you do start using them you will be off only one or two medicines. It cannot replace your anti platelet medicines like Aspirin. Natural food supplements are a good choice but the medicines should preferably be continued.
Take care and do let me know if there are other queries on this issue.
