Can Acupuncture Cause Irregular Periods?
Question: My main problem is I am trying to conceive but am not getting anywhere, I have been to see a Fertility Specialist who has done various tests that have been normal including my Husband semen analysis. I have always had a regular cycle up until having acupuncture. I have now stopped acupuncture so do you see my cycle go back regular. Please find below my cycle. I am aware I missed a period but I understand we can all miss from time to time. I would greatly appreciate your feedback once you have read the following:
How on earth can I get pregnant with a cycle like this:
JANUARY 2015
23rd January - 27th January (5 days bleeding)
Cycle 24th December – 22nd January = 30 days (Happy with this Cycle)
FEBRUARY 2015
NO PERIOD
March 2015
4th March – 8th March (5 days bleeding)
Cycle 23rd January – 3rd March = 41 days (? cycle for being too long)
April 2015
9th April – 13th April (5 days bleeding)
Cycle 4th March – 8th April = 31 days (happy with this cycle)
MAY 2015
8th May – 12th May (5 days bleeding)
Cycle 9th April – 7th May = 29 days (happy with this cycle)
Started Acupuncture
XXXXXXX 2015
3rd XXXXXXX – 8th XXXXXXX (6 days bleeding) 2nd XXXXXXX spotty pink, cycle day 1,2 only pink when wipe, cycle day 3,4 red bleeding but only requiring 1 towel, cycle day 5,6 pink/brown discharge
Cycle 8th May – 2nd XXXXXXX = 26 days (cycle quite happy with)
16th XXXXXXX – 21st XXXXXXX (6 days bleeding)
Cycle 3rd XXXXXXX – 15th XXXXXXX = 13 days (what is going on?)
JULY 2015
1ST July – 5th July (5 days bleeding)
Cycle 16th XXXXXXX – 30th XXXXXXX = 15 days (what is going on)
At this point I decided to finish Acupuncture
JULY 2015
22nd – ( days bleeding)
Cycle 1st July – 21st July = 21 days
(Is this my own cycle trying to come back as it has reached 21 days after leaving acupuncture alone)
I am seeing a Fertility Specialist who has run all kinds of tests and there is nothing wrong. No PCOS, no nothing
Blood results are as follows: Estrogen 115, LH 1.7, FSH 5.6 (taken on Day 2 of cycle)
Ultrasound scan shows multiple follicles and endometrial thickness of 8.4mm.
Husband semen analysis also normal

Your cycle has delayed recently which is normal. There is nothing to worry about.
Only thing that will help you is weight loss. As I know, you had good weight loss recently. I hope you are continuing good work.
You will conceive after weight loss.

My cycle is becoming more frequent like 15 days and 21 days can this have been interrupted with acupuncture? I am really worried my eggs are running out.
Also rang my fertility specialist who wants to run more blood tests fsh amh etc on day 2 of cycle this cycle doesnt seem normal so should I wait until I bleed next as I worry it will give a false result.

You have good egg reserve as I saw previously and reserves are unlikely to runout so soon.
Let me know FSH and AMH reports so that I can comment further.
Recent FSH and AMH reports were excellent. They cannot become abnormal so soon.
If possible, repeat , AMH on day 2 of next cycle as cycles were irregular this time. Send me reports if already done blood tests.
