Posted on Tue, 22 Jul 2014
Question: My wife has a doubt of pregnancy - very early to confirm (around 10 days). Actually this was not a planned one. She is also feeding to our 1year old baby. As she was experiencing pain in her left Knee, we had consulted an Orthopedic Surgeon yesterday and he prescribed Tabs - Naprosyn 500 MG and Repepsa for 10 days (2 each daily). Please advise if these medicine would have any side effects to the feeding baby and her pregnancy.

Brief Answer:
naprosyn is not to be taken.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX, thanks for trusting health care magic.
The naprosyn tablets mentioned by you is contraindicated in pregnancy and lactation both.
So instead of using that you can take paracetamol tablet along with local heat massage.
Repepsa tablets are safe in pregnancy and lactation both so can be used in prescribed doses.
Ask her to take adequate rest and good healthy diet.
She will be fine soon.
In case you have any other question I will be happy to help.

Thanks for your quick reply and advise as well. Would like to know the chance of her getting conceived. Basically she has an irregular period. Post her delivery, she had once only - in the eight month post delivery. And it was after 25 days from her last period that we had this attempt and thought that it was during the natural contraceptive period. She hasn't got her next period till date. When would be the best time to get the pregnancy test done? And since this was not a planned one, would request to know if there are any means to stop fertility - provided she hasn't conceived yet.

Brief Answer:
UPT AFTER 35 days.

Detailed Answer:
Hi sir, if she has menstruated then she must have or might start ovulation also.
So chances of pregnancy are significant in case of unprotected sex.
She should do a urine pregnancy test after 35 days of her last menstrual cycle and see for results.
In case negative then wait for periods and start taking a regular contraception in the form of pills or cu-t insertion.
Wish her the best of health.
