Posted on Fri, 19 Jun 2015
Question: hello, im worried but i can't seem to book an appointment because I'm a uni student and they don't do the full STD test in their clinic. i had unprotected sex for a few minuets and swallowed, the day after i gained a cold, my throat was really sore, and my chest was wheezing but after a few days with medication it went. but three weeks after that i gained another cough, this time it went into tonsillitis, lost my voice, couldn't eat because it was sore, but didn't have a temperature, developed a rash that didn't itch but went without cream, and my glands expanded but you couldn't notice unless you touched them, i had tonsillitis for 2 weeks before going to see a nurse she gave me medicine penicillin and it went straight within 2-3 days. then after 2 months and a half i was off to canada and after the second day of being there developed a rash in the same location which is my thighs, but this time went all over my legs, the rash gradually got better within the three week period, but straight when i got back to the uk they nearly went, i think was this because due to stress, warmth, or tight clothing? sorry but I'm worried and wondered should i be worried?

Brief Answer:
Unlikely due to HIV/STDs.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thank you for query. I am Dr Bharatesh D Basti answering your query.
Welcome back to health care magic. I have gone through the details and can make out your anxiety.

The chances of transmission of HIV by a single unprotected intercourse is very rare.HIV is not transmitted by oral sex unless there are ulcers or open wound in both in the areas of contact.

The symptoms of tonsillitis or upper respiratory infection can be due to respiratory contact with the person. The incubation period of HIV is at least 2&4 weeks. So unlikely to be due to HIV.

The rash is not specific to HIV.It may be due to fungal infection or viral infection with the description given. Please send clear photos of lesions if available for clarification.
So the possibility of HIV is very unlikely.

You can nevertheless go for HIV antibodies test now and after 3 months exposure.
Also go for STDs tests to relieve your anxiety.

You can get back for any clarification with details and clear photos.
Thank you
