Can HIV Be Contracted Through Anal Sex?

default
Posted on Fri, 23 Jan 2015
Question: I have asked you for advice and I had found it to be above exceptional. I need your help again. I have asked the other medical advisor did not provide me with any helpful information.

I have had encounter with the person before as I described to you earlier. In August, I got together with a transgender person that I know. I know she works as a escort. I know she uses protection normally with her clients (that is what I know of according to others).

The first time I got together I had sex with her the condom broke. I know looking at in the past I had sex with her unprotected for at least 15 mins before ejaculating in her. After 12 weeks I was negative of any type of STD or HIV.

Last Tuesday, she was visiting family and she asked for to stop by the next thing I knew we where having sex. This time unprotected I lasted a total of 8 mins. Just like last time, I have no cuts, nicks or sores on my penis and she has no visible cuts, nicks, or sores on her anus. I did ejaculate into her anus on her request. After I was done, even after using lube there was light amount of anal liquid on my penis. Not much of anything, but enough to make me concern. I was concerned and did not know what to do. I think this time I probably acquired HIV. I was the active partner and she was the receptive partner. She assured me over and over that she gets tested. I am wondering if I made the fatal mistake. I know a family member of mine has a cold and I woke up with a slight tingle in my throat. I don't know what to make of it, but I have become somewhat concern. Any advice will help.

Brief Answer:
Wait for 10 more days and then get tested for HIV by RNA PCR.

Detailed Answer:
Hello young fellow,

Welcome again to the forum and thanks for sharing all of your concerns with me.

Let me again reassure you first that what you did was just a part of flow of emotions and you were not able to control the same. It does happen with everyone of of once in life time.

Now in present scenario the only thing which was not on right track was not wearing a condom and not having protection during intercourse.

First of all calm down yourself and relax. Your unprotected sex was done on Tuesday and it is only 4 days since the incidence. So, I suggest you to relax for 10 more days and then go for RNA PCR test to detect HIV.

I had already guided you for this test. To refresh the things - It is one of the test which puts you in ease at the earliest. The test can be done any time after 14-15 days of exposure.

Having cold in your family member and tingle in your throat has nothing to do with HIV infection. DO not correlate anything with any symptoms of HIV, as it takes minimum of 2 weeks for any of the symptoms.

I just want to suggest you to calm down yourself and do not worry. Wait for 10 more days and then get tested.

So just relax and do not worry.

My all best wishes for your good health. I hope you these information will relax you. I will be glad to answer any further queries.

Thank you so much. You gave me great advice last time and I thank you so much. You were right on all accounts. I am going to take it easy and follow your advice. It happen last Tuesday (over a week ago), sorry for the confusion. So I guess I should be able to proceed next week.

I reread all your information and if she did not have anything, then my concern would be low. I never been in this situation and nor have done something like this the heat of passion. Hopefully everything will work out and I need to exercise caution in all that I do.

Thank you. You have been a great guide.

I just wanted to ask, how common is it for someone who has no wounds or sores to obtain HIV if they are the active partner? Under this situation. I figure I would ask it before I close the discussion.

Brief Answer:
Even if partner is HIV +ve then also not 100 % chance to get HIV infection

Detailed Answer:
Hello young buddy,

Welcome again to the forum and thanks a lot for your further follow up.

Regarding your further queries, let me ease your mind by following points:

- You do not know the exact status of the other person. There are 50 % chances of her positive status and equally 50 5 chances of her negative status. So, in one scenario we can assume that the person is HIV negative. In that case you are completely tension free and you need not to be worried for anything. SO in this case we can consider 50 % chances of her negative status.

- Now the other side of coin where we consider that the person is HIV positive where there are the other 50 % chances of her positive status. Now in this case also, academically there are certain data which tells about the chances:

Academically it is ranging from 0.06%-0.62% or we can say one transmission per 1,667 exposures to one in 161 exposures. Therefore not every person exposed by anal intercourse gets HIV. In circumcised it is even 1 transmission per 909 exposures.

- There is typical term known as serodiscordant couples- In this this is seen that even if one partner is HIV positive then also the other partner remains negative despite unprotected sex. This is basically an immune response which protects the other person from HIV.

So even if we consider your partner to be HIV positive then it is not 100 % chance to get HIV infection.

I suggest you to ease your mind and relax for few days to complete a time period of 14 days and then get tested.

My all best wishes for your good health. I hope you these information will relax you. I will be glad to answer any further queries.
