Are Severe Headaches A Side Effect Of Nexium?

default
Posted on Mon, 27 Jul 2015
Question: Hey Dr,

I am currently on a Nexium prescription which I have been on for 5 days now but the last two days I have had this really bad headache maybe even a migrane. Everytime I turn my head down there is an extreme concentrated amount of pain and I can feel it at the back of my head and neck. Would this be a possible side effect of Nexium or something else? I have had a lot of water as well and I don't feel dehydrated so I am not sure what else it could be. I have also been on Nexium before and have never experienced headache like this before. Should I just have a nurefoen to help the pain or is it something worse that I should get seen about? Thanks in advance!

Regards, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
neuromuscular pain, can take nurofen with caution

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concerns.

1. Headache you are having is not related to nexium. It is of muscular-skeletal in origin.

2. You can take nurofen as it will subside the pain.
The only problem I see is that nurofen contains the active ingredient ibuprofen that will aggravate your stomach problems.

3. Applying warm clothing and analgesic cream locally can also help together with massaging.

The symptoms will subside in few days.
Wish fast recovery!

That's good then one last thing would you recommend taking 1 or 2 nureofen tablets at once because of my stomach problems?

Brief Answer:
Yes, can use with caution, see following. ..

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

Thank you for following up.

You need to get off the pain. So, if I was your caring doctor would advise to take paracetamol 1000 mg first and see if pain is subsided.

If not, can take up to 2 nurofen / day. But I advise to watch if your stomach problems have been aggravated/triggered.

That's why I advised earlier to use it with caution.

Wish fast recovery!
