Are Lightheadedness, Weakness In Legs And Foggy Feeling Symptoms Of Sinus Infection?

default
Posted on Sat, 25 Jul 2015
Question: About 4-5 days ago, I started having some lightheadedness. Really no other symptoms. My legs have felt a bit week, but not sure if I'm just thinking this in my head. Feeling lightheaded will come and go. When I lie down at night, it goes away and really don't feel it again until I get up and moving around for awhile the following day. Could this be a sinus infection coming out this way or inner ear issue? I just feel pretty foggy and a bit disoriented. Are there over the counter medications or possibly decongestant that would help?

Brief Answer:
Please tell a few details-

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for being on healthcaremagic.com.
I am Dr.Ajay Panwar,a neurologist,here to answer your query.

Though anxiety can commonly result in such symptoms,I would like to know a few details in order to answer the query well-
1)Once the lightheadedness starts, how long does it last?
2)Do you have any history of ear problems-hearing loss or tinnitus?
3)Any history of loss of consciousness?
4)Any other medical history-like Diabetes, hypertension, thyroid problems and likewise?
5)History of excessive work related stress?Anxiety?Depression?

Further,I can confidently say that sinus infection is not the cause of these symptoms.Over the counter medications or decongestants are unlikely to help.

Please maintain adequate hydration and do mental relaxation exercises like meditation/yoga/pranayama.That will likely be of help.

Please follow up with details.

I'd describe it more as a foggy head feeling and/or pressure inside the head. It can last throughout the day (come and go a bit) but tends to go away in the evening for good. No symptoms when I lay down for bed, have a night's sleep and no symptoms when I wake up until I get up and going.
No ear problems that I am aware of, no loss of consciousness. No other medical issue other than the full work up 1.5 years back at the cardiologist for chest pain that came back normal.
I had a physical with full blood work up about 3-3.5 years ago. All was normal at that time.
Should I get another full physical? I was told every 5 years in your 30's.
Would I have additional symptoms other than foggy/pressure feeling in head for something more serious?

Brief Answer:
Anxiety/Psychosomatic.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for being in follow-up and providing details.

In background of your detailed clinical history, this does not appear to be an organic disease.Rather,it is likely psychosomatic or a manifestation of stress/anxiety.

This does not appear to be a medically serious problem.I suggest you to start doing regular mental relaxation exercises like meditation or yoga.I hope to see you improving shortly with reduced mental stress levels. However,if the symptoms persist even then, you should then visit a physician for examination.

Hope that I have answered your query. If you have some further questions,I shall be glad to answer else please close the thread, rate it and write a review as your rating will be of help to me.
