default
Posted on Sat, 11 Oct 2014
Question: Dear Doctor
I had an protected sex on XXXXXXX 24th of this year. But i did oral sex that was unprotected. After the week i was facing a problem of belching. I dont know whether it is related to HIV or some thing else So i took HIV ½ P 24 combo test ( july 2nd )and then it was negative and i consulted doctor but i did nt tell my exposure and i had an tablet. After few days it has been rectified but again belching was started. During this time ( After two weeks from exposure ) i was frrling my body temperature slighlty high ( i just felt it by touching my neck) but i did nt feel any fever like that and just 2 swollen kind in my armpit but i am not sure whether it is related to lymoh node swollen or something else. But just after 3 or 4 days swollen in my armpit was gone. I consulted doctor for my belching after one month (July 20th ) and i was telling about my exposure and he advises me to consult an HIV specialist doctor and he added that belching is not related to HIV and gave tablet for belching for a period of 1month and I took HIV test on XXXXXXX 20 th ( test was normal HIV antibody test) and the result was negative after one month of exposure. After that aug i was facing a problem of cold ( at the time it was raining season also) and 2 days dysentry ( thrice per day) and I consulted HIV specialist doctor on aug 5th. He advised me that “dont wry”. We will take an test at an regular interval ( after 2 month ,3month and 6 month) and he was saying this dysentry and cold was because of climate. After one more around mid of august i was facing some cough problem also along with that cold and then i took HIV ½ and P24 combo test ( after 2 month of an exposure) and the result was negative. And then i consulted doctor and he was saying there is no chance of hiv infection but the problem is that i still facing the cold and cough. So i was worried. Then i came to know that for HIV PCR test and no need of waiting period
So i took that test in after 9 weeks of my exposure at aug 30th The result was
HIV 1 RNA quantification by COBAS Below 20 copies /ml
Based on the above result can i judge it is HIV negative??
Now my problem is
1.     Cold and cough ( it is not been rectified till date and i am faicng severe cough during early after i woke up)
2.     Belching ( it isreduced but not eliminated completely)
Apart from that i am not facing any problem
My question is that
Question no 1. Is that symptom related to HIV ?
Question no 2. Still i have to wait fr upto 6 month for to know that whether i am been hiv infected or not ??
Or question 3. these symptoms anything related to other STD related diseases?
I took one more STD test that is called STD profile 2 . In that also all are came negative. Test result was
1.     Chlamydia Trachomatis-IgA Antibodies by EIA NEGATIVE (0.74) Negative : 0.0 to 0.8 Ratio
Borderline : 0.8 to 1.1 Ratio
Positive : Above 1.1 Ratio
2.     Chlamydia Trachomatis-IgG Antibodies by EIA NEGATIVE (0.2) NEGATIVE : < 0.8 Ratio
BORDERLINE : 0.8 to 1.1 Ratio
POSITIVE : > 1.1 Ratio
3.     HIV-DUO by CMIA (IV th Generation test) NON REACTIVE (0.36) Non Reactive : 0.0 to 1.0 Index
Reactive: Above 1.0 Index
It is a screening test & Reactive results need to be confirmed by alternate method
like WesternBlot. It determines the presence of HIV p24 antigen and antibodies to HIV I
group M&O and HIV II. All Reactive results are crosschecked by immunochromatography
method before release .
4.     Syphilis (Treponema ) Antibodies by ELISA NEGATIVE (2.74)
5.     HSV 1+2-IgM Ab (Serum/ELISA) NEGATIVe
6.     TPHA (Serum/Haemagglutination) NEGATIVE
R P R for T.PALLIDUM (Serum/Flocculation) NON REACTIVE
7.     HSV 1+2-IgG Ab (Serum/ELISA) NEGATIVE (LESS THAN 2)
Question no 3. For STD any window period is there?
Question no 4. Apart from they above any other STD test i have to take??
Question no 5 . In that test HIV 1 RNA is written and HIV 2 mean what is that represent?
Extermely sorry doctor for my detailed story because i am confused and my cough and cold problem become too severe thats why
Thanks in advance

Brief Answer:
Free from HIV1 and STDs

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Thanks for posting your query.

You had protected sex. Unprotected oral sex carries a low risk for HIV/STD. Earliest manifestations of HIV can occur only after 4-6 weeks and not earlier than this period in the presence of HIV infection.
Regarding your questions:
1. Belching is not a symptom for HIV. Common cold and fever can occur to anybody. If it is not responding alternate drugs have to be tried.
2,3,4.. You had undergone elaborate investigations. HIV 1 and STDs had been ruled out. HIV DUO test done after 4 weeks ruled out HIV 1 infection.
You need not wait till 6 months to rule out HIV.
HIV 2 can be ruled out by an ELISA test done after 12 weeks.
5.HIV 1 is the commonest HIV infection (99%). HIV 2 is less than 1% everywhere other than in XXXXXXX
Nothing to worry. You would be free from HIV/STD infections
