Pregnant, Had Branch Artery Retinal Occlusion, TIA. Risks During Remainder Of Pregnancy?

I am a 36 year old mom of seven, and 16 weeks pregnant with my 8th child. In this pregnancy I have had a Branch artery retinal occlusion and a TIA. They have tested all of the normal things- heart , blood , carotid, cholesterol , and everything has come back normal. My midwife is sending me to a perinatalogist an I just have no idea what to expect. What are my risks with the remainder of this pregnancy?

Hello, I would be happy to help you with your question.

You are pregnant and have had a stroke. This is a serious matter. You need to be under the care of a high-risk OB, so I am glad that you are going to a Perinatologist. You need to be anticoagulated, using Lovenox or something similar, and you need close followup of the pregnancy. Do everything that the Perinatologist recommends and do NOT question their recommendations. This is a very serious matter and should not be taken lightly. What is suprising is that you have not seen them already. Make sure there is not something you should be doing in between now and when you are seen and I wish you the best of luck!

I hope this helps. If you have additional questions, please use the Premium service. I am happy to elaborate further. You are welcome ask for "Dr. Tim".
