What Are My Chances Of Going Through Surgery For Metatarsal Fracture?

I have a stress fracture of the 5th metatarsal in my foot. Just had cast put on. How frequently does this type of fracture require surgery. My doctor said we would wait three weeks. What are my chances of it showing signs of healing without surgery? Is surgery usually required for this type of fracture.

Hi
Thanks for posting
This type of fracture heals by 4-6 weeks time without any surgery with diet rich in calcium 1000mg/day and vitamin D 1000 i.u./day and rest. It is very rare to have surgery for this benign fracture which occurs due to excessive physical activity as in military, athlete and police training.
I can assure you will not require surgery.
Take care
