What Is The Criteria For Diagnosis Of Gestational Diabetes?

Hi Doctor, I am 24 weeks pregnant and I had Glucose Challenge Test at Appolo Koromanagala,Bangalore and following are details: I had proper breakfast and coffee(no fasting) and then have my blood sample for random blood sugar and rerading was 131mg/dl and later they gave 75g of glucose dissolved in water to be drunk and after 2 hours i again gave my blood sample and it showed a reading of 147 mg/dl.Though the range specified in report as normal is 70-170 for random blood sugar,My gynaecologist tells above 140 mg/dl is sign for gestation diabetes. Is it true? (I want to know since initial reading itself is 131 and after 75g glucose 147 should be fine right?)Please let me know. Thanks a ton!!!

Dear ma'm, hi! as per the latest protocol, whatever your gynec has done is absolutely correct. but at the same time one glucose reading above 140mg/dl does not mean you need to be on insulin. it only means that you must cut down on frank sugars, high carb food and take regular walk. keep monitoring your sugars, fasting , post breakfast, post lunch and post dinner. if you want you can register with us and i can suggest you through out your pregnancy about your diabetes management. Regards!
