Would It Be Safe To Have A Tubal Ligation At 45 Years?

I am 45 years old and last year stopped taking birth control pills because I had been taking them for 15 years. With the mood swings, vaginal dryness, missing periods, and no sex drive, I thought it would be a good idea to stop taking them. My husband and I do not want to get pregnant, but since being off the pills, my whole attitude has changed. I recently missed a period and we panicked. So now I am thinking of having a tubal ligation. Would it be better to do this or at my age would it be beneficial to looking into having a hysterectomy?

Hello,

Hysterectomy is not a recommended procedure for birth control.

Tubal ligation can definitely be considered in your case. The surgery is done laparoscopically and if your general health status does not prevent from undergoing surgery, then tubal ligation can be done.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
