Will Taking Potassium Chloride Be Safe For Controlling BP?

I live in Canada - a recent blood test reveals I m borderline in my potassium level 3.3 (range 3.3 - 5.1) I m a senior 79 years old - only medication is a water pill 2.5mg daily for blood pressure problem - last reading 130/78 and an adult coated aspirin 81mg taken daily. My doctor has suggested I take 1 x APO-K - Potassium Chloride - Slow-Release 600mg tablet daily - I would like your opinion.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The potassium level is just within range. It is possible that it may remain in this normal range but with the use of the diuretic (the water pill that you mentioned), it may go below normal.

You can consider the use of the potassium replacement therapy but it may not need to be taken daily eg alternate days may be enough.
Your doctor should also monitor potassium to make sure it does not go above the upper limit.

I hope this helps
