Will Mucolite SR And Augmentin Cause Any Harm If Pregnant?
Im 24 weeks pregnant and this is my first pregnancy. I have started having nasal congestion and breathing issues for the past 10 days. My ENT prescribed Mucolite SR for 1 week and my gyanec told me to take Augmentin 625mg. Will these tablets cause harm to my baby in any way as have taken these medications for 1 week.

Please do not worry. It is difficult to predict the effect of most of the drugs on pregnancy as direct studies to test effects of drugs on pregnant women are not possible. However, all the data available regarding these drugs do not indicate any adverse effects. Ambroxol does reach the baby, but no harmful effects have been documented. Also by 24 weeks most of the major organs in the baby are developed. So the chances of drugs causing anomalies are not there.
These are drugs that I use commonly in my practice for similar conditions as yours and I have not encountered anyone having an affected baby after use of these drugs. They are quiet safe so no need to worry.
It is best to try to avoid infections during pregnancy by eating home cooked food, drinking boiled / filtered water and avoiding visiting crowded places as respiratory infections are commonly spread by aerosol and contact with infected secretions.
With these small precautions infections can be easily avoided.
