Will Antidepressants Treat Mood Swings And Depression?

I am currently taking an HRT for menopause symptoms, however, it doesn't seem to be helping much with my symptoms of depression, mood swings, and emotional symptoms. I don't have an issue with hot flashes, so would an anti-depressant be a better alternative for me?

Hello thanks for asking from HCM

Hormone Replacement Therapy help in restoring imbalance of hormones resulted due to menopause but it is not much effective in controlling mood symptoms and severe anxiety. It is also associated with increased risk of some carcinomas and some females don't tolerate it. Anti-depressants can become good option in such stages. They help to improve mood and control mood swings and bad thoughts. Anti-depressants like Duloxetine, Venlafaxine are commonly used by psychiatrists to control mood swings and depressed mood. I would advise you to consult a good Psychiatrist for prescription of these drugs.

Thanks, hope this helps you

Hello thanks for asking from HCM

You are on HRT (Hormone replacement therapy) for menopausal symptoms. The symptoms of hot flashes have been under control but your symptoms of depression, mood swings, emotional symptoms are still there. For control of these symptoms anti-depressants are needed. Medicines like Duloxetine, Venlafaxine etc have excellent roles in controlling the mood swings associated with menopause. As per my opinion the treatment will be better alternative for you. The drugs are free of side effects while HRT is associated with significantly increased risk of some cancers. Consult a psychiatrist for prescription of these drugs.

Thanks, hope this helps you
