My mothers lower leg and into heel and going into foot has turned black, it is hot to the touch. Above the black area the leg is hard like a rock and she has diabetes. She said it does not hurt how could this be, it looks very painful. Anyway the doctors say it is fine, what is your opinion.

There might b two possibilities ..either bruises or diabetic foot...these r complications of diabetes .
in diabetic ptient its painless due to peripheral neuropathy.
Diabetic foot is gangrenous or black discoloration of skin and might b supporative infection. And needs proper debridement.
While bruises don't need any treatmnt..above all maintaining blood sugar is mandatory.
