Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had been taking Nitrazepam and cannabis for recreational purpose for a very long time. I gave up these habits about seven months ago. But After giving up i feel weird. I can't sleep at nights. can't talk to people, I forget things easily. Are these symptoms of bipolar disorder or some other form of mental disorder?
No, not bipolar disorder at least not in the manic phase. Could be depression. Not typical for marijuana. Cannot say in your particular case without a detailed exam BUT One possibility is that you haven't changed at all but now notice small mental lapses because the drugs are no longer clouding your perception and no longer sedating you (the benzodiazepines are excellent sleeping pills). Another possibility is long term changes in the brain affecting anxiety, brain activation, and sleep due to the benzodiazepines. They certainly have a LOT of this effect in the first days of quitting. This can be so bad that it can be fatal (this only occurs in the first week of quitting). I would mention that other substances such as alcohol are much more likely to cause long term brain changes than the drugs you have mentioned. Also, other medical or psychological disorders can do this such as depression as mentioned, thyroid disease, low grade infections, and many others.
