Why Am I Experiencing Flu Like Symptoms And Stiff Neck While Suffering From Staph Infection?

I had a bad staph infection that spread into my joint of my left knee 3 months ago. Since the I keep getting swollen bumps in that same leg and always become very large, hard, swollen and infected. I ve now had flu like symptoms for over a week and its turned into stiff neck runny nose, eyes watering and a large lymo under my left arm pit. It has had infection drain from it and now its spreading. What is really going on with me?

Hi,
I have gone through your history, but you have not mentioned your age in the history. You are having Swollen left knee from last three months and from last one week you are having flu like symptoms.
A swollen knee joint is a common symptom arising either from knee or other disorders. Knee swelling can originate from almost any structure forming the joint, like ligaments, synovial membrane, bursae, etc., or from fluid accumulating within the knee, such as blood or pus.
Lack of prompt treatment can cause lifelong disability. Hence, it is always better to consult your orthopedics , to find the exact cause of knee swelling.
You may require MRI Scan.
Regarding you flu like symptoms it may be a seasonal flu it will subsides in two or three days. These symptoms may requires
1. Oral Antibiotics
2. Oral Analgesics and Antipyretics
3. Lot of Fluids
4. Rest.
Your symptoms will come down not to worry too much.Regarding your knee problem you may require MRI Scan.
Thanking You.

Hello,

Thanks for posting on HCM,

You are experiencing those symptoms as a result of the infection which has obviously spread into your blood stream. You are thereby suffering from septicemia probably due to staph. If you were on antibiotics but still had those symptoms, then you might have developed some resistance.
I suggest a blood tests: culture, CBC, ESR, CRP etc in order to determine specific cause. The blood culture and sensitivity tests will reveal the causative germ and the specific antibiotics that can be effective on it.
IV antibiotics might be the most effective treatment. You will also need antiinflammatory or analgesia for the pain.
See a doctor as soon as possible.

Hope this helps
