What Treatment Is Suggested For Whooping Cough?

WHEN I COUGH I GET A "TASTE" IN MY MOUTH LIKE I'M COUGHING UP AN ODOR. I'VE HAD A COLD FOR ABOUT A WEEK AND NOW JUST COUGHING. THE COUGH USUALLY PRODUCES A THICK MUCUS. I HAD WHOOPING COUGH ABOUT 24 YEARS AGO. I UNDERSTAND THAT YOU CAN'T GET WHOOPING COUGH MORE THAN ONCE.

Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Yes, you are right. Whooping cough in childhood gives life long immunity and hence it is not possible in your case.
In my opinion, you are mostly having post infectious bronchitis.
It is common after viral upper respiratory tract infection (cold). And thick mucus after cold suggestive of bronchitis.
So better to consult pulmonologist and get done clinical examination of respiratory system and PFT (Pulmonary Function Test).
PFT will also tell you about severity of the disease and treatment is based on severity only.
You may need inhaled bronchodilators and inhaled corticosteroid (ICS).
Don't worry, you will be alright. Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
