What Should I Do To Reduce Pressure On Cervix During Pregnancy?

Hi I am a 29 year old female. At my 19 week sonogram I was found to have a short cervix 19mm with funneling. My first pregnancy 22 months ago was full term with no complications. My doctor put me on progesterone suppositories and told not to lift anything heavy. I will have a repeat sono scan in a week and every 2 weeks thereafter. When asked about bed rest my doctor said that since I do not have prior history I do not need it. I am very concerned and think I should have been advised some form of bed rest as it helps with reducing pressure on the cervix. Please advise.

Hi. although your 1st pregnancy was safe and uneventful, but with this length of cervix at 19 weeks and funnelling, in my practice, I will advise my patient to get cevical stiching done and take all due precautions like not to lift wt.,total abstinence .Progesterone suppositories are ok and also uterine relaxants. avoid any kind of urine or vaginal infection.Thanks.
